Cappe is in the département called Dordogne
- the départements are listed alphabetically
and Dordogne is No.24. They are generally named after rivers
and la Dordogne really is one of the prettiest. Ranging
from verdant river banks in the lower reaches to sheer sided
cliffs with pre-historic residents and towns and castles clinging
to them and up to fast flowing currents in rocky gorges in
the upper reaches. There are very good river cruises and it's
possible to kayak down long stretches of the river.
Dordogne is
divided into four areas: Perigord Pourpre, Vert, Noir and Blanc;
we are in Pourpre - the wine region and you can indulge
in much dégustation and find plenty of bargains.
The local culture is rustic and in many ways has remained unchanged
for generations. Long held traditions are always in evidence
with all towns and villages having market days and celebrating
fêtes.
We are based in the
southwest of France in the Aquitaine region. The principal
city is Bordeaux and other large towns are: Perigueux, Bergerac,
Libourne, Sarlat etc. We are about an hour's drive from Bordeaux
- ca. 85km from its ring road - la rocade - or ca.
100 km to Merignac airport on the western side of Bordeaux.
The climate is temperate with plenty of warm, sunny weather
and the countryside is lush and verdant.
We're also blessed with a great golf course
and leisure club at Château des Vigiers.
It has been voted one of
the top fifty courses in France
